Do you think that social media has the potential to bring about real social change?
Yes, I believe that social media has the potential to bring real social change. There are many different things that it has allowed us to do. Social media allows us keep contact with people that are all over the world. For example when the Colorado shooting happen the whole world found in the matter of 1 hour of after it happen. With the help of social media it was all over the news and even led to the actor of Batman to come visit the people who were injured at the movie premiere.
I believe sooner or later people will start looking at social media for their news rather than watching new on TV or the newspaper. The problem with getting news only off the TV and newspaper is that you have to wait till they have the time to release it, and by the time they release it will be old news or ever body else would of already heard about it. The problem with getting news from the newspapers and TV is that everything is edited so the everyone can read it, so this mean that they might cut out leave out stuff that isn’t clean. With social media the full story can be posted without any cuts or any edits and this means that you’re getting the full story. This is a reason why social media has the potential to bring about real social change.
Lastly like social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are great for people to post stories and events that are happening around the world. I do not watch news on TV anymore because I can log on to with of these sites and find all the new that I need to know for that day and I know as much as my parents know when their watching news.
You don’t need to go to school to be a reporter , to post a story online all you need is a camera and Facebook, Twitter or You Tube account.
I loved the point you made about Christian Bale. What a great example of tangible social change -- regular citizens requested that a Hollywood actor pay respect to the victims of the Colorado shootings, and he did. I think that's incredible. Of course, it doesn't take the pain and the impact of the crime away, but I'm sure it did bring a small amount of joy to the victims. Given the circumstances, I think that's amazing. If that doesn't prove that social media has the potential to bring about real social change, I'm not sure what does.

Certainly the social media today has a lot of impact on the society, in which you have clearly made the point of the Colarado shooting incident and how it had impacted the lives of the others. Social media certainly has a potential to social change.
ReplyDeletesocial media today do have alot of changes already happening in our society so you are right. theres already a few elderly on most of the social media sties so i dont doubt it being something big in the future.
